Job Description

Balkwill Pharmacy is looking to add a full time or part time pharmacist to our team to work alongside our pharmacy manager/owner in all aspects of pharmacy operations! We are a small independent pharmacy located in Trochu, Alberta (90km SE of Red Deer, 130km NE of Calgary), that has been the sole pharmacy in our community for many years. We have many compliance pack patients in our community and also service St. Mary’s Healthcare Centre’s Continuing Care and attached senior’s lodge in Trochu.

Our store hours are 9:00am-6:00pm Monday through Friday, and we are closed on weekends and stat holidays. Our schedule is flexible, and we are willing to accommodate an irregular schedule if needed.

This position may start immediately, but will remain open until the ideal candidate is found. Our ideal candidate is a pharmacist with injection and APA certifications (or has the desire to obtain these certifications within a reasonable timeframe) who is interested in utilizing these credentials as part of our clinical services, as well as augment the dispensing process. 

Our pharmacists often administer medications and vaccinations by injection, provide travel consults, order routine labs, and perform rapid antigen strep tests. The closest medical clinic and hospital is located in a neighboring community (Three Hills), and we have an excellent relationship with the prescribers there. However, as there is no medical clinic in our community, we have ample opportunities for minor ailments prescribing and chronic disease management as you feel appropriate.

Of course, practice experience in a community pharmacy is an asset, but new graduates are encouraged to apply!

Experience with the Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Program is also considered an asset but is not required.
