Professional Liability Insurance
All pharmacists on the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) clinical register must provide proof of a minimum of $2,000,000 professional liability insurance.
CPBA Professional Liability Insurance is only available to RxA members. CPBA Professional Liability Insurance is Claims-made insurance which means that the policy covers claims first made during the policy term.
You will see that Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) premium has increased this year. This increase is a direct reflection of both inflation and policy usage where millions of dollars of claims costs have been paid under the CPBA program to defend and protect insured members. If you have any questions about this or the coverage available under the CPBA program, please contact CPBA’s program broker, BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd, at cpba.bmsgroup.com or 1-844-200-7140.
The CPBA professional liability insurance offered through RxA exceeds ACP requirements and extends to a pharmacist’s full scope of practice.
- $2,000,000/claim; $4,000,000 annual aggregate professional liability insurance exclusive to RxA members that exceeds ACP licensing requirements.
- Higher limit options available. Claims-made insurance. The policy covers claims first made during the policy term
- Supplementary Policy – CPBA recognizes that some pharmacists have Professional Liability Insurance (E&O) coverage through their employer. Members can purchase a supplemental insurance policy, which is intended to supplement an existing primary professional liability insurance, which members may hold through their employer’s. It is important to note that you must hold a minimum 2M VALID primary coverage in order for the supplementary insurance to respond. Please ensure that the primary coverage has not lapsed, was cancelled, nor is invalid.
