Voices in Vests

When pharmacists unite, we amplify our impact — on patients, on healthcare, and on the future of our profession. The Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA) is the collective voice of pharmacists in Alberta. Together, we advocate, educate, and support one another to deliver the highest quality, patient-focused care.

By becoming an RxA member, you’re not just joining an association — you’re joining a movement. A movement that:

  • Advocates for your role and recognition within Alberta’s healthcare system.
  • Equips you with the education, tools, and resources to lead with confidence.
  • Connects you to a community of peers who share your commitment to excellence and innovation in patient care.

Every patient you help creates a story — a story of impact, of improved health, of care that only pharmacists can deliver. When we capture those outcomes collectively, we show the undeniable value of pharmacist-delivered care across Alberta.

That’s why RxA has partnered with Medi-scribe, an Alberta-based clinical practice platform trusted by over 600 pharmacies. Medi-scribe simplifies clinical documentation, standardizes guideline-driven care, and reduces administrative burden — all while securely sharing anonymized, de-identified, and aggregated data with RxA.

This data isn’t just numbers — it’s proof. It’s evidence of better patient outcomes that strengthens RxA’s advocacy for recognition, compensation, and the continued expansion of pharmacist-led services.

  • If your pharmacy already uses Medi-scribe — thank you! You’re helping to tell the story of our profession’s impact.
  • If not, join us. Subscribe to Medi-scribe today and add your patients’ success stories to the collective evidence that pharmacists transform healthcare.

Your voice matters — and when pharmacists across Alberta speak together, we create change that lasts. Protecting and advancing pharmacist-provided care begins with you — your patients, your community, and your elected officials need to hear firsthand about the difference you make every day.

Advocacy isn’t just about policy — it’s about passion. It’s about sharing real stories, starting meaningful conversations, and standing up for the future of pharmacy in Alberta.

Whether you:

  • Tell your patients about the care and interventions pharmacists provide,
  • Reach out to your MLA to champion pharmacist-led services, or
  • Share the positive impact of your practice on social media using #RxAVoicesinVests.

Your involvement fuels our momentum.

RxA provides the tools, resources, and support you need to advocate effectively for your patients and your profession.

To Protect Patients’ Access to Pharmacists Provided Care

The Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services (PPHS) extended the Alberta Blue Cross agreement until March 31, 2026. Despite RxA’s persistent advocacy for increased funding for pharmacist-delivered care, the Ministry has maintained the current budget at $670 million—identical to the 2024–25 fiscal year.

Given the volume and scope of services pharmacists are currently providing, we are once again bracing for significant funding shortfalls. The implications are wide-reaching: potential reductions in wages or hours for staff pharmacists, strain on pharmacy owners, and increased pressure on care delivery. Recent announcements regarding changes to senior and non-group copay structures, the removal of publicly funded COVID-19 vaccines from pharmacies, combined with cuts to Care Plans and Followups last fall, further compound the challenges ahead.

RxA’s Driving Change

Highlight the Real-World Impact of Pharmacists

We’re elevating stories from the frontlines—your stories—about how policy shifts are reducing access to vital services like chronic disease management and public health vaccinations. Through our advocacy, these stories are being brought directly to Alberta Primary and Preventative Health Services decision-makers.

Use Clinical Evidence to Reinforce Our Value

In partnership with MediScribe, we’re leveraging aggregated, anonymized data to demonstrate the effectiveness of pharmacist-led interventions. These real-world insights help quantify the value of pharmacist care, will continue to contribute to modernizing the compensation frameworks, and build a more sustainable future for our profession.

Educate & Empower Patients

Public understanding is key. Every pharmacist plays a role in educating patients—explaining that they are not just dispensing medication, but actively managing acute and chronic conditions, preventing complications, and improving quality of life and health outcomes. When patients understand this, they become our strongest allies.

Strengthen Advocacy & Public Engagement

We’ve launched a comprehensive public relations campaign featuring easy-to-use MLA engagement tools, including pre-written email templates and a quick, accessible petition. Send an email to your MLA — and encourage your patients to do the same. Take action today at https://rxa.ca/for-the-public/protect-patient-access/ .

Unite the Profession

Change requires a united front. By fostering a strong, supportive network of pharmacists, we amplify our collective voice. Voices in Vests is a call to action—for every pharmacist to stand together, speak up, and engage in shaping the future of our profession.
