The School of Community, Health and Wellness at Red Deer Polytechnic is currently inviting applications for a full-time sessional Instructor in the Pharmacy Technician program, commencing August 12, 2022.  A second 4.5 month full-time sessional Instructor is also available commencing December 14, 2022.

Required Qualifications:

  • Certificate or Diploma from a recognized Pharmacy Technician program
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP)
  • Recent experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • All applicable areas of expertise and specialization will be considered; however we are interested in applicants with hospital pharmacy experience, experience preparing sterile products and sterile product preparation certification and/or community pharmacy experience

The Pharmacy Technician program is a two year diploma that prepares the graduate to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) following graduation and successful completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) certification process and the Alberta College of Pharmacy’s (ACP) registration process.

Our program has a reputation for being a premier program in the province and has become the industry standard for Pharmacy Technicians. It is accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).

The Pharmacy Technician program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that promotes creativity, scholarship and commitment to student success. RDP offers an excellent professional development program that helps faculty to continuously develop skills, knowledge and expertise specific to teaching and learning as well as their respective discipline.

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching students in classroom and/or lab settings with flexibility for both face to face and online course delivery.
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
  • Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.
  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.
  • Participating in School and Institution-wide initiatives and/or committees.
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.
