Job Description

Role Description The Pharmacist role at Shoppers Drug Mart is a full-time, on-site position based in Edmonton, AB. In this role, the Pharmacist provides safe, accurate dispensing of prescriptions, reviews medication therapy, and offers professional counseling on prescription and non-prescription medications. The Pharmacist collaborates with pharmacy assistants and other team members to manage workflow, maintain inventory, and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate standards. Daily responsibilities include performing clinical services such as medication reviews and injections, documenting interventions, and supporting health promotion initiatives. The Pharmacist also contributes to a positive customer experience by building rapport, addressing questions, and supporting a welcoming, inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Pharmacist in good standing with the provincial regulatory body in Alberta (ACP), with eligibility to administer injections where applicable.
  • Strong clinical knowledge in pharmacotherapy, prescription interpretation, and drug utilization review, with a focus on patient safety and evidence-based practice.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy dispensing systems, prescription processing, and inventory management, including handling of controlled substances and compliance with regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to counsel patients, collaborate with healthcare providers, and work effectively with pharmacy team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with changes in pharmacy practice, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Customer-focused mindset, with the ability to provide respectful, inclusive service to diverse populations.
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or equivalent degree recognized in Canada; previous community pharmacy experience is an asset.
