Job Description

Apothecare Pharmacy is seeking a clinically driven pharmacist who wants to practice to their full scope and build a meaningful clinical practice in community pharmacy. We believe community pharmacists should be front-line clinicians in chronic disease management and preventative care, and we are looking for someone who shares that vision.

This role is ideal for a pharmacist with APA and PRAC-ID who enjoys managing complex patients, collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals, and developing innovative clinical services. This position is particularly well suited for a recent PharmD graduate or a clinically motivated pharmacist who wants to develop expertise and practice fully within Alberta’s expanded scope of pharmacy practice.

We are seeking someone who sees community pharmacy as a platform for advanced clinical care, not simply prescription checking or shift coverage. This role is designed for pharmacists who want to build a clinical career in community practice; not simply cover dispensary shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centred clinical care using Alberta’s expanded scope of pharmacy practice
  • Conduct comprehensive medication assessments and medication management services
  • Initiate, adapt, and prescribe medications when appropriate under APA
  • Order and interpret laboratory investigations using PRAC-ID
  • Provide immunizations and injection services
  • Identify and manage cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors, including hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care
  • Contribute to preventative health initiatives and screening programs within the pharmacy
  • Support pharmacy technicians and students in delivering high-quality patient care
  • Participate in the development of pharmacist-led clinical services

Qualifications

  • Licensed and in good standing with the Alberta College of Pharmacy
  • Additional Prescribing Authorization (APA) required
  • PRAC-ID required
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills required for effective patient care and to collaborate with healthcare professionals
  • Strong clinical knowledge and patient-centred care skills
  • Interest in practicing to full clinical scope
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to professional growth and long-term practice development

Preferred Background

This role is particularly suited for a recent PharmD graduate or a pharmacist who has completed the PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program and is interested in applying advanced clinical training in a community pharmacy setting.

Practice Environment

Pharmacists at Apothecare are supported by experienced pharmacy technicians and are encouraged to dedicate time to clinical services, prescribing, and patient care activities, not solely dispensing.

Our practice is structured to allow pharmacists to provide thoughtful clinical care without excessive dispensing pressure, enabling meaningful patient interactions and high-quality medication management.

Apothecare values collaboration, professional growth, and respectful teamwork. We are committed to fostering a workplace where pharmacists can develop their clinical skills, pursue areas of interest, and build long-term relationships with patients and healthcare partners.

Apothecare supports the continued development of clinical pharmacy practice and values pharmacists who are interested in mentorship, professional growth, and contributing to a progressive community practice environment.

Compensation and Benefits

Apothecare offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience and clinical training.

Additional benefits include:

  • Retention bonus
  • Flexible scheduling (part-time or full-time)
  • Supportive clinical practice environment
  • Strong technician support to allow pharmacists to focus on patient care
  • Opportunity to develop a clinical niche within community practice
  • Ability to practice fully within Alberta’s expanded scope of pharmacy practice

Compensation will be discussed with selected candidates based on experience, clinical training, and scope of practice.

Schedule

Scheduling is flexible and will be discussed with the successful candidate. Some evening or weekend coverage may be required depending on the needs of the pharmacy.

Eligibility

Applicants must be licensed with the Alberta College of Pharmacy and legally eligible to work in Canada.
