Meet the Board

Aileen graduated from the University of Alberta in 1983 and recently received the University of Alberta Alumni Honour Award.  She is the owner of 2
independent pharmacies in the Edmonton area since 1985. Aileen has been
involved in the mentorship program with the Faculty of Pharmacy, preceptor for first-year students and Pharm D rotations. Previously she was a TA in dispensing labs as well as a Lab Facilitator. She is authorized to administer injections, and has obtained her APA. Aileen is also involved with the Pharmacy Alumni Association and the organizer for Independent Night for students as well as a member of Rxa’s Leadership Cohort.

What do you wish other people knew about RxA? The history of RxA and the amazing things that have been accomplished!  The hardwork that RxA does often goes unnoticed or unappreciated.  The passion for our profession that the CEO and the staff as well as the board has is amazing.  But it takes a village to keep the momentum going and our members are so important.  So many pharmacists don’t remember what it took to get to this point where Alberta is the envy of all provinces and countries.

In my spare time, I love to garden or maybe I just like seeing the produce that I can share with my friends and family.  I love to travel and have new experiences. In life it’s important to love what you do and the people you do it with.  Life goes by so quickly, it is important to have a great work / life balance.  The motto I try to live by:  “Live never to hurt so it never hurts to be living”

After graduating from the University of Alberta in 2005, Brittany continued developing her skill set by obtaining her injection certification, APA and Certificate in Travel Health. She has worked various pharmacist roles and is currently the Alberta Lead Pharmacy District Manager for Sobeys, Safeway and FreshCo Pharmacies. Although she is no longer on the frontlines, Brittany continues to advocate for the profession through Sobeys National Pharmacy Advocacy Council and in RxA’s leadership cohort. She encourages and supports her teams to provide patient-centered care by using their full scope of practice.

Fayaz Rajabali, a dedicated advocate for Alberta’s pharmacy profession and its patients, brings robust expertise to the Board of the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA). His leadership as a council member and past President and two term council member of the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) granted him deep insight into pharmacy regulation, overseeing two of ACP’s governance cycles and president during the ratification of the strategic five-year plan while also chair during the onset of COVID-19, where Virtual Care Guidelines and Point of Care Testing Standards were utilized by practitioners.

Beyond ACP, Fayaz serves on the Board of the Seniors Association of Greater Edmonton, advocating for seniors’ healthcare and socioeconomic needs. As a multi-store Shoppers Drug Mart franchise owner, he has been a lead in pharmacist training programs for Certified Tobacco Educator training with Alberta Health, and his pharmacies were amongst Alberta’s first to service patients with publicly funded HPV and Rabies programs in pharmacy. Fayaz also served on Shoppers Drug Mart’s National Pharmacy Workgroup and Alberta Professional Practice Committee. Fayaz also served as instructor and curriculum development at Bredin Institute, and has been a serving member on RxA’s leadership cohort.

His regulatory and practical experience make him a strategic advocate for RxA and the future of pharmacy in Alberta. 

Jill is a graduate of the University of Alberta. She began her career in community pharmacy and supportive living facilities and obtained her injection certification and APA. Community pharmacy and developing a relationship with patients have always been important to Jil.

Jill became a Director with Sandstone Pharmacies and now holds the position of Operational Specialist with Neighbourly Pharmacy. Jill oversees the provision of central services in Alberta including central fill, compounding, and home health care operations.  Jill and her clinical team provide outreach immunizations to over 1500 seniors in AB.

Jill believes in the importance of supporting the growth of pharmacists and pharmacy students as they advance in their careers. She has facilitated injection certification courses, reviewed CE materials as a Subject Matter Expert, developed clinical and patient care programs, and precepts fourth year pharmacy students. Through growing the clinical skills of pharmacists and encouraging them to practice to full scope she works to improve patient care.

Jill lives on an acreage with her husband, 2 kids, and 11 pets including cats, dogs, chickens and a rabbit.  She enjoys exercising and baking in her free time.

Brad is a community pharmacist, owner, and licensee of Glenbrook Pharmasave in Calgary, Alberta. A graduate of the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Brad holds additional designations as a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), Authorized Prescriber (APA), and Certificate in Travel Health (CTH). His practice emphasizes person-centred care across a broad range of health needs. He actively practices to Alberta’s full scope of pharmacy services, providing accessible, comprehensive care to meet the needs of his community.

Throughout his career, Brad has served on numerous committees dedicated to advancing the pharmacy profession, fostering strategic development, and supporting pharmacists in achieving their full potential. He has held several leadership roles within the Alberta College of Pharmacy, including serving as President and, most recently, as a member of the ACP Tribunal.

Brad brings extensive experience in governance, policy development, and pharmacy operations to the RxA Board. He remains a passionate advocate for strengthening community pharmacy, promoting sustainable funding models, and elevating the role of pharmacists as integral providers within Alberta’s health system.

Sean graduated from the University of Alberta in 2019 and has worked at Pharmasave in Medicine Hat (Neighbourly Pharmacy) ever since. He bought in as a partner to the pharmacy in 2024 and is passionate about continuing to work to provide the best possible pharmacy care to his patients. He has attained his injection authorization and his APA and uses them regularly to improve the health of his patients. He is passionate about practicing pharmacy to full scope and is working on obtaining his CDE to better assist diabetic patients in his practice. Sean previously served on the RxA Board as the Student Board Member in 2018, and is excited to return to the board to help advance the profession of pharmacy in Alberta.

Darren graduated from the University of Alberta in 1982 and has spent most of his career in East Central Alberta.

He currently owns two pharmacies in Tofield where he practices with injection and APA authorizations. He is familiar with the changes going on in the pharmacy profession and realizes that we must guide change, adapt our practices to these changes and be prepared for future change.

Bob Sprague brings over 30 years of experience to the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association as a senior executive skilled in navigating complex environments to implement strategic healthcare initiatives. As the CEO and owner of Sprague Drug Inc., he established a multi-business pharmacy and retail company, growing it from eight to 28 locations and achieving over one million customer transactions annually. After selling his company, Bob was hired by the Alberta Government (Ministry of Health) as Provincial Director for a healthcare portfolio that included 18 different community-based healthcare programs. Following five years in that role, he transitioned to serve as a Provincial Director with Alberta Health Services, overseeing a diverse portfolio of 15 community-based provincial healthcare sectors. Today, Bob serves as a board member for various organizations. He holds a degree in pharmacy, an MBA, and a Master’s in Education.

Shivali Sharma graduated with Distinction from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2004. She began her pharmacy career as a staff pharmacist with Safeway before becoming an Associate-Owner with Shoppers Drug Mart in 2009. Today, she leads three Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Edmonton, with a focus on patient-centered care and the advancement of pharmacy practice.

Committed to advancing gender equity in pharmacy, Shivali has hosted numerous women-in-leadership events since 2017. She is the co-founder of HERizon Rx, a national platform created to empower and support women in pharmacy ownership and leadership. Her leadership and advocacy have earned her several honours, including Shoppers Drug Mart Owner of the Year, the University of Alberta Preceptor Recognition Award, and recognition in the U of A Pharmacy publication as one of the Women Leaders in Pharmacy in 2021.  She is also a dedicated mentor to pharmacy students, interns, and new pharmacy owners, actively fostering leadership and growth within the profession.

Shivali currently serves on the Alumni Council at the University of Alberta as the representative for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is also a Board Director with the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association (RxA), and past Leadership Cohort member, where she actively engages with elected officials to help shape policy, champion the profession, and drive strategic advancement.

Her commitment to mentorship, advocacy, and leadership continues to create meaningful change in pharmacy and beyond.

Mark graduated from the University of Alberta in 2009 and went on to complete his hospital residency in 2010 with Alberta Health Services (Calgary). While working at the Foothills Medical Centre his practice focus was internal medicine, quality improvement research, and multidisciplinary education. In 2014 Mark became the managing partner of an independent pharmacy in Calgary with outreach clinical work involving inner-city health, addictions, and complex chronic diseases (Endocrine, Respirology, and Rheumatology). It is his passion to find novel ways to integrate pharmacists into underserved populations to achieve shared outcomes

Bruce Winston is an entrepreneur and pharmacist, having graduated from the University of Alberta.

Bruce co-founded Apex Pharmacies which he grew to 20 pharmacies under the Sandstone Pharmacies brand.  Following the sale of Sandstone to Neighbourly Pharmacy, Bruce has taken on a role with Neighbourly as Head of Alberta Pharmacy Strategy and Professional Affairs. While he no longer directly owns a pharmacy, Bruce retains a deep personal commitment to the practice of pharmacy.

Bruce is committed to working diligently to advocate for the profession and to ensure it remains financially sustainable for a new generation of pharmacists. He hopes that through his activities with the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association, and by working with pharmacy students at the UofA, he will assist pharmacists in launching their careers and in feeling fulfilled with their professional practices throughout their careers.
