This session will benefit any pharmacist regardless of their practice setting.

 

Description: 

In January 2019, pharmacists were given access to publicly funded pneumococcal vaccine to vaccinate people 65 years of age and older. This session will help you to understand pneumococcal disease and relevant recommendations for pneumococcal vaccination

 

Objectives:  At the end of this session you should be able to:

  • Describe the epidemiology of pneumococcal disease
  • Outline the various pneumococcal vaccines on the Canadian market
  • Describe the Pharmacy Enhanced Immunization Services Program Pneumo-P 23 Vaccine: Pneumovax® 23
  • Be aware of high risk groups not covered by this program
  • Understand how to utilize the influenza consent forms

Betty Golightly’s career includes over 27 years of community practice. She has a Foundation in Travel Medicine from the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Betty successfully challenged the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge Examination (Portugal). Currently, Betty is an instructor in the Pharmacy Assistant Program at S.A.I.T.  and the owner and operator of Go Travel Health where she does travel health consultations and presentations.
