dTap Combined Vaccine for Pregnant Women Pharmacy Immunization Program - Online

Alberta Pharmacists.

This session will benefit any pharmacist regardless of their practice setting.



In January, pharmacists were given access to publicly funded diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis combined vaccine (dTap) to vaccinate pregnant women. This session will help you to understand diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis and the relevant recommendations for dTap vaccination in pregnancy.



At the end of this program you should be able to:

  • Describe the causes and consequences of tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis
  • Be familiar with the terminology related to this vaccine
  • Determine when to administer vaccine to women during their pregnancy
  • Outline processes for ordering stock and billing for vaccine administration

Betty Golightly’s career includes over 27 years of community practice. She has a Foundation in Travel Medicine from the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Betty successfully challenged the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge Examination (Portugal). Currently, Betty is an instructor in the Pharmacy Assistant Program at S.A.I.T.  and the owner and operator of Go Travel Health where she does travel health consultations and presentations.


Heather Scarlett-Ferguson, BSP, RPh, MEd, EdD

Heather Scarlett-Ferguson has worked most of her career as a hospital pharmacist specializing in addiction and mental health. She has also worked in community pharmacy providing relief and part-time support in rural Alberta. Previously, she worked for the former Alberta Mental Health Board and Alberta Health Services managing research and education programs. She teaches pharmacology in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at MacEwan University. She is currently the Director of Professional Development for the RxA.
