Session Description: 

The 2018 flu season will begin on October 152018.  This program will provide an overview of the policies and procedures for pharmacists participating in the delivery of publicly funded flu vaccine this year.  Join Betty as she discusses the policies pharmacists need to be familiar with, including the age of administration changes and describes this year's flu vaccine product(s).

Betty Golightly’s career includes  over 27 years of community practice. She has a Foundation in Travel Medicine from the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Betty successfully challenged the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge Examination (Portugal). Currently, Betty is an instructor in the Pharmacy Assistant Program at S.A.I.T. and the owner and operator of Go Travel Health where she does travel health consultations and presentations.


Session Objectives: 

At the end of this program you should be able to:

  • Review the references and resources available for pharmacist participating in immunizations
  • Examine policies and procedures as well as rules & regulations for the publicly funded flu vaccine this season
  • Discuss the epidemiology of influenza
  • Explore the specific influenza vaccines to be administered in the 2018-2019 season in Alberta
  • Explain rationale behind questions on the influenza consent forms
