Target Audience: 

Alberta pharmacists wishing to understand the influenza program. (Awareness)

Alberta community pharmacists participating in the influenza program. (Program Participants)

 

Description: 

The 2017 flu season will begin on October 23rd, 2017.  This program will provide an overview of the policies and procedures for pharmacists participating in the delivery of publicly funded flu vaccine this year.  Join Betty as she discusses the policies pharmacists need to be familiar with, and describes this year’s flu vaccine products and their associated recommendation for use based on patient specifics. 

 

Objectives: 

At the end of this presentation you should be able to:

  1. Review the references and resources available for pharmacist participating in immunizations
  2. Examine policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations for the publicly funded flu vaccine this season
  3. Discuss the epidemiology of influenza
  4. Explore the specific influenza vaccines to be administered in the 2017-2018 season in Alberta
  5. Explain rationale behind questions on the influenza consent forms

Betty Golightly’s career includes 26 years of community practice. She has a Foundation in Travel Medicine from the Scottish Centre for Infection and Environmental Health and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Glasgow). Betty successfully challenged the International Society of Travel Medicine Certificate of Knowledge Examination (Portugal). Currently, Betty is an instructor in the Pharmacy Assistant Program at S.A.I.T. Polytechnic and the owner and operator of Go Travel Health where she does travel health consultations and presentations.
