Job Description

The School of Community, Wellness and Health at Red Deer Polytechnic is currently inviting applications for two part-time Instructors in the Pharmacy Technician program, commencing December 16, 2022 until April 24, 2023.  Specifically, this posting is for the following winter term course:

  • PHTD 210 – Aseptic Technique. Classes will occur on-campus Thursdays from 10:00 am – 11:50 am and 2:00 pm – 3:50 pm.

The Pharmacy Technician program is a two year diploma that prepares the graduate to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) following graduation and successful completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) certification process and the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) registration process.Our program has a reputation for being a premier program in the province and has become the industry standard for Pharmacy Technicians. It is accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).The Pharmacy Technician program provides exceptional opportunities to work closely with students, faculty and staff in an innovative, supportive environment that fosters creativity, scholarship and commitment to student success. RDC offers an excellent professional development program that helps faculty to continuously develop skills, knowledge and expertise specific to teaching and learning as well as their respective discipline.

Responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching students in classroom, lab, and/or clinical settings with flexibility for both face to face and online course delivery.
  • Creating a stimulating, effective, and learner-centered environment.
  • Preparing, reviewing and/or updating course material.
  • Marking, grading, and evaluation of student work.
  • Providing ongoing feedback, guidance, and assistance to students.
  • Actively contributing and participating in program planning, curriculum development & review, project work, and scholarly activity.
  • Participating in School and Polytechnic-wide initiatives and/or committees.
  • Upholding the Professional Responsibilities of Faculty at RDP, which are described within the Faculty Performance Policy.
  • Demonstrating and promoting RDP organizational values and following RDP policies and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician program certificate/diploma
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP)
  • Recent experience in aseptic/sterile compounding in a pharmacy setting
  • Excellent communication, public relations and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for teaching, ability to inspire students, and commitment to student learning and success
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of team environments
  • Proven commitment to continuous learning and reflective practice
  • All applicable areas of expertise and specialization will be considered; however we are especially interested in applicants with sterile compounding experience.
  • Current immunizations as per RDP requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary environment
